As a child, Mona watched her mother weave and learned from her; she has perfected the art of weaving over many years. Mona hand-dyes wool for her pieces with natural materials such as onion skin, lichen, sage, Navajo tea and rabbit brush. Half of the wool that she weaves with is from sheep that she raises, and half is purchased from another herd. Mona says that while she enjoys making both traditional and contemporary patterns, she always starts with the colors first, and lets them be her guide in the creative process.
