Traditional Carving

Hello my name is Kenneth Quanimptewa. My clan is rabbit and I am from the village of Hotevilla. I make kachina sculptures out of the cottonwood root and rattles out of gourds. The kachina sculptures I make represent all animals, insects, tribes and the sun.

The kachina sculptures I have here are the Owl Kachina, Comanche Kachina, Butterfly Kachina, Palhik’mana (Water Maiden), Sun and Crow Mother. All of these kachinas come out at different times of the year, especially during the summer and during night dances. These are the kind of kachina sculptures I enjoy carving along with rattles.
