Welcome to our first Museum Digest. This is an assortment of our little news bits and bobs to keep you up-to-date with the Sharlot Hall Museum. Let’s dive in!
Mick Woodcock and Nancy Hans retire from Museum
Staff members Mick Woodcock and Nancy Hans retired from the Sharlot Hall Museum on June 30, 2021.
Mick, curator of 42 years, led the charge with the Museum’s exhibits and Living History program for many years. Taking on the persona of “Judge Howard” for various events and Living History programs, you may have seen him at Fort Misery, telling stories by the fire in winter or tending the garden in summer. Mick will continue to share his vast knowledge of Arizona history at volunteer training sessions.
Nancy, hostess extraordinaire, put her formidable administrative and artistic talents towards managing the Museum Store, admissions, membership, and event receptions, among a multitude of other things. Chances are, if you’ve been to a member reception or Sharlot’s WineFest, or appreciated a beautiful display in the Museum Store, you enjoyed her handiwork.
It’s been a good run. From everyone at the Sharlot Hall Museum, thank you.
New Staff Member: Jose Gonzalez
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Jose Gonzalez, our newest staff member, filling an opening on the Facilities & Exhibits staff after long-time staff member Tim Yungman retired. Jose hails from California and is delighted to be at the Museum. Say hello next time you see him on the grounds!
Board Election Brings New Trustees to Board
The results of this year’s Board of Trustees election are in! Our newly elected board members are Suzanne Springer, Prescott native and second-generation owner of Prescott True Value Hardware, and Casey Van Haren, director of Prescott Valley’s Community Services Department.
Appointed to the board to fill unexpired positions are Kelly Paradis and Bob Harner.
Our full board is Jamaal McCoy (president), Marv Kaiser (vice president), Kathy Mancino (secretary), Rich Finston (treasurer), Kim Finston (immediate past president), Jimmy Cordier, Dava Hoffman, Ben Andre, Steve Gaber, Lisa Watters-Lain, Suzanne Springer, Casey Van Haren, Kelly Paradis, and Bob Harner.
Annual Membership Meeting 2021
Our annual membership meeting came off without a hitch on Tuesday, June 22. Attendees enjoyed perfect weather and light refreshments. Jamaal McCoy, incoming president of the board, gave opening remarks and a general update on the Museum’s budget and business workings.
Executive Director Lisa Hayes took the mic next, her first time at an annual membership meeting since taking the helm. She expanded on how far the Museum has come and where staff vision hopes to lead us in the coming year—including reinvigorating and expanding permanent exhibits and a deeper involvement in our local community.
Wine Donations for Sharlot’s WineFest “Pick ‘n’ Pull”
Wait, you can donate wine? Yes! The “Pick ‘n’ Pull,” a popular wine bottle “mystery grab-bag” at Sharlot’s WineFest, relies entirely on donations of wine from Museum supporters. If you have a bottle (or two!) that you would like to contribute, contact event coordinator Shirley Swift at shirley.swift@sharlothallmuseum.org or (928) 277-2035.
